Atlantic Imaging are proud to be official resellers of CoolLED LED illumination systems. Typically, older microscopes have utilised mercury-containing light sources. While mercury and metal halide lamps can provide adequate illumination, they are inefficient and require bulb replacement on a regular basis. Lamp intensity decreases in these lamps with bulb ageing and disposal of toxic mercury products is not straightforward. When switching between fluorescent channels, mechanical shutters and filter wheels are required, resulting in significant latency times.
Atlantic Imaging have been recommending and supplying CoolLED units to our customers for many years. CoolLED products are aligned with our core company ethos – a desire to enable smooth integration of all components of an imaging system to allow longevity, automation and value for money. All CoolLED units can be integrated into existing microscope systems from the major manufacturers; either connected directly by means of CoolLED direct-fit, or fibre-fit adaptors. Most CoolLED models can also be seamlessly integrated into the image acquistion software to enable rapid control of channel switching and electronic shuttering. Whereas mercury lamps have a heat-up and cool-down time for safe operation, CoolLED units can be switched on or off as required, with no risk of damage to the unit – ideal for labs with high user numbers.
We are able to supply the entire range of CoolLED products (link opens in a new tab), from simple white-light pT-100 units to the pE-4000 with 16 selectable wavelengths. We have many years’ experience integrating these products into widefield microscope setups and are happy to advise you on a product best-suited to your application.
